Lessons/tips

if you really get into the ice skating "sport" and start taking lessons, here are some tips to help you understand more:
  1. Always listen to the teacher / instructor if you're taking group lessons and have a friend in the group, save all the talking for off the ice.
  2. If you don't understand something, ask the teacher, don't be afraid to speak up. that's the only way you will understand it better.
  3. If you absolutely can't do something, don't say "I can't do it, i'm not good enough" because you can, think of it as if the word "cant" isn't in your vocabulary. you may not be able to do it right then, but if you work at it, eventually you will be able to do it faster than you can say "Peanut-butter and jelly" I promise!
  4. if you're in a competition, and you don't have an outfit, song, or routine, don't worry everything will work out the way it is supposed to. you may not like it, but everything happens for a reason! - Belive me, I know what it's like 3 days before the competition without an outfit, routine or music!

A little about me

Hello, I thought that I would let you know a little about me, This is a picture of me on my grandparents' pool [left]. I am 9 years old and, I like to swim. even though it is not on my profile. I also have glasses, but I'm not wearing them because I'm in a pool. - Lora

falling on ice

notice that This girl that fell, [right] is using her hands to save her fall, I have the hands circled in red so they stand out to you, but that's not the point, when you fall, put your hands out like she is doing, when you get up, get on your hands and knees, and put one leg up, then the other, then bring your hands up. if you take lessons, this is the first thing that you will learn. plus, it really helps you keep from hurting your body. so when you know that you are going to fall, put your hand's out in front of you and use this method to get up.

Safety First Part 2

if you have just as much control as someone else, still be careful!!
If you're about to run into someone, try to steer away from them, even if you think that you will not hit them, I know because My sister and i were both practicing our routines for the Badger State Games and we both thought that we wouldn't run into each other but, of course we did, and it went so fast, but she accidentally landed right on my leg and, unfortunately, it broke, two days before my competition. now i have a super bright pink cast on my leg going almost up to my thigh!! so always remember that ice skating is dangerous and you will fall and get hurt like break a bone or get a bruise, i have gotten probably 15-20 bruises in the years i have ice skated. and just recently broke a bone. Be safe, But have fun on the rink!!
I f you want to go ice skating, but don't know where any are near you, well if you live in the Brookfield area, Eble Ice Arena is a good place to go!!!

Safety first! Part 1

Kids like 5 and under, might want to wear a helmet, because they are younger and probably will fall down more often. When you get the hang of it, you will not be so scared and you may not hang onto the edge either [because you will most likely hold onto the edge when you first get on the ice]. so always watch where you're going and don't think that sense you may be better and have more control of what you're doing that you don't have to watch out for where you're going, it actually means that you have to be MORE careful because you have more control!

The first Scare!!

When it's your first time on ice skates, You will probably be scared like CRAZY!!
That's okay, because it's normal. Also, you for sure will fall, abou 10 times! agian, that's normal.
but once you've got the hang of it, try to go across the rink each way so you "Devide the ice in fourths". without falling. But when you have SUPER-DUPER floppy skates, it will most likely be hard for you to skate. because You will have HORRIBLE support. if you start taking lessons, you will NEVER want to wear those agian!!
Remember to always be safe on ice! don't be un-smart and hurt yourself!!
